With Florida football set to take on FSU this Saturday, both teams will be without their starting QBs. The Gators lost Graham Mertz to a collarbone injury while FSU lost Jordan Travis to a gruesome leg injury on Saturday.

We chronicled yesterday Florida’s backup Max Brown, but who is the backup QB for the Seminoles?

Florida Football: Everyone loves the backup

Tate Rodemaker was a four-star prospect in the class of 2020. He was the 12th ranked pro style passer by 247 Sports, two slots behind Florida’s third string QB Jack Miller.

Rodemaker threw for 42 touchdowns as a senior with a 66% completion rate his senior season at Valdosta High. He was originally a USF commit that also had interest from Baylor, Virginia Tech, and Utah.

During his time at FSU, he has seen mop up duty across 22 games. He started one game his true freshman season against Jacksonville State and has not started a game since.

The most notable accomplishment for Rodemaker prior to this season was entering for Travis last season against Louisville when Travis got hurt and throwing two touchdowns in a 35-31 victory.

What flips this week’s match up on its head is that Brown is far more of a runner than Mertz, while Rodemaker is more of a pocket passer than Travis. Even when Rodemaker entered against North Alabama, he was only credited with three rushing attempts for two yards..
