No. 9 best Florida basketball NBA career: Neal Walk

  • Drafted: 1969 No. 2 overall
  • NBA career games: 568
  • NBA PPG: 12.6

The 6-foot-10 center dominated the SEC in his three seasons with the Gators. He averaged 26.5 points as a junior and 24.0 points as a senior. He was seen as the consolation prize in the 1969 NBA draft and was selected second behind Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar).

The Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns actually flipped a coin to decide who got the first pick that season and it went Milwaukee’s way, so Walk ended up in Phoenix. Walk played five years in Phoenix and in the 1972-73 season averaged 20.2 points a game, his career high.

In his eight seasons, Walk never made an All-Star team. Abdul-Jabbar played 20 years, was a 19-time All-Star, and won six titles and six MVPs.
