Florida football: First CFP Rankings give Gators major opportunity

Florida football, to the surprise of nobody, was left out of this year’s first College Football Playoff Rankings, which were released last night.

However, even though Florida was left out of the top 25, the rankings provided the Gators with a big opportunity over the last three games of their season.

The last three opponents that Florida faces this year are all ranked within the top 15.

Florida football: Cause some chaos

Assuming the Gators are able to take care of business against Arkansas this weekend, they’ll have already exceeded their win total for the year and will be playing with house money over the last three weeks with a chance to play spoiler.

When it comes to their games against LSU and Missouri, the significance of those games will be clearer after this week.

LSU plays Alabama, in a game that could decide the SEC West, and Mizzou takes on Georgia in a game that could swing the SEC East.

Florida could play spoiler for either of those teams if they win their games this weekend.

Even if they don’t, the Gators will have a shot to take down a ranked SEC team on the road, which would be a big win for Napier as year two comes to a close.

One game that we know will be massive is when Florida State comes to town. The Noles debut at No. 4 in the rankings, and will likely be 11-0 when they come to Gainesville.

If Florida can knock off FSU in The Swamp, they can kick them out of the playoff. One thing we’ve learned with the CFP Committee is that losses late in the season tend to hurt you more than losses early.

Dealing FSU a week 12 loss could demoralize their playoff chances, which would be a good feeling for UF.

After this weekend, the Gators will have three games where they can cause some chaos. We’ll see if they can get it done.
