Florida football recruiting has been putting together one of the best classes in the country throughout the 2024 cycle, and have some absolute studs committed to come be Gators.
One of those guys is LJ McCray, a 5-star DL out of Mainland, Florida, who committed to Billy Napier and Florida earlier this month.
It hasn’t taken him very long after his commitment to show everyone yet again why he is such a touted recruit.
LJ went viral this weekend for making a ridiculous interception.
Florida football recruiting: Is there anything he can’t do?
McCray is a monster on the defensive line and has been producing at a high level for Mainland all season.
Then, he shows up and does this, because why not?
Having this type of athleticism and reaction time to a ball in the air as a 6’7” defensive lineman is just unfair. And apparently, he has better hands than some wide receivers.
McCray is the second-highest-rated player in Florida’s class per On3’s Industry Rankings, but to be honest he should be at the top.
He’s ranked as the eighth, sixth, and 23rd overall player in the country on On3, 247, and ESPN respectively, but Rivals has him as the 250th-best player in the country for some reason.
In reality, he should be a composite top-15 player in this class.
Through six games this season LJ has totaled 36 tackles and 15 TFLs, along with seven sacks, a forced fumble, and the pick six you all just saw.
Building up elite talent in the trenches is what’s going to take the Gators to the next level under Billy Napier. The loss to Georgia showed us all how far behind UF still is at the line of scrimmage.
McCray is hopefully just the first in a long line of elite DL about to make their way to Gainesville.
