Florida football recruiting: Gators pursuing FSU QB commit in 2025
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting is starting to become a major presence on the recruiting trail under Billy Napier, which is reflected in their third-ranked 2024 class.
The Gators are looking to keep their momentum in 2024 rolling into 2025 as they aim for the best recruiting class in the country.
The only way you can do that in this day and age is by pressing for players who are already committed elsewhere to get the talent that you want.
Florida has their eyes on a handful of quarterbacks in the 2025 cycle, and one of the guys they’re pushing for is current Florida State commit Tramell Jones.
Florida football recruiting: Head to head with the Noles
Tramell committed to Florida State in April of this year. The only other school with any chance to get him per On3’s RPM is the Gators.
Jones is ranked as the 28th-best QB in the 2025 cycle and the 386th-best player in the entire country.
In his sophomore season with Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, he completed 161 of 277 passes for 2,310 yards, 23 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
While his completion percentage in 2022 (58%) isn’t as high as it needed to be, he’s already shown improvement in his junior season.
Through nine games he has a 61.2% completion percentage for 1,983 yards, 22 scores, and just four interceptions.
That improvement from last season gives college coaches the faith that he can be one of the top passers in the country by the time he signs to a school.
Jones has already taken three trips to The Swamp but has yet to take an OV to either UF or Florida State. Those will likely come next season.
Assuming Napier can secure an official visit, and the Gators continue to trend upward on both the recruiting trail and the field, there’s no reason the Gators can’t become a major flip threat in Tramell’s recruitment.
