Florida football: Halftime thoughts for Florida-Georgia as Gators struggle
By Will Thomas
Florida football is at the half against the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, and it’s safe to say that things could be going better for the Gators.
Florida heads into the locker room down 26-7 and needs to make some major adjustments at the half if they want this game to be competitive.
Most of the problems have come from big mistakes that have given Georgia the advantage. You can’t really afford to make small mistakes against the best team in the country.
The miscues that Florida has suffered today really couldn’t have been any more significant.
Florida football: Could this day get any worse?
After a great first drive that got the Gators up 7-0, things started to snowball in a very, very bad way.
The offense has looked stagnant, and Eugene Wilson hasn’t gotten much action after looking unstoppable on the opeing drive.
The storyline coming into this one was the line of scrimmage. Would the Gators be able to put up a fight against UGA’s DL?
So far, they haven’t. They’ve surrended two strip sacks, one of which was recovered by Georgia in the red zone.
On top of that, the Gators ran one of the most confusing 4th down plays in football history, which gave the Dawgs the ball in plus territory.
And to make matters worse, Florida had a punt blocked out of their endzone for a safety.
So to answer the question I asked a bit ago, no. I’m not sure it could get much worse. Florida hasn’t had anything go right for them outside of the first five minutes of the game.
The highlight of the first half may be Crawshaw’s punt down to the one right before the first half ended. Punters are people too.
The Gators need to dig deep and come out swinging in the second half if they want to make this one close.
