Florida football: Steve Spurrier has encouraging words ahead of UF-UGA
By Will Thomas
Florida football has a tall task looming this weekend as they head up to Jacksonville to take on the Georgia Bulldogs.
Florida currently sits as a 14.5-point underdog, and there has been a lot of movement since the beginning of the season in favor of the Gators in the betting markets.
To add to the positive buzz, the Head Ball Coach, Steve Spurrier, had some encouraging words for Florida fans as we get closer and closer to gameday.
On ESPN Radio’s “Inside the Huddle”, Spurrier expressed some optimism about this game, as well as what the rest of the season could hold if the Gators pull it out.
Florida football: So you’re saying there’s a chance?
Here’s Spurrier’s full quote he gave on the radio yesterday morning:
"“I think this team has a chance. I mean, we’ve got a chance to beat Georgia. And if we do that, we’re right in the middle of winning the Eastern division. It’s a long way to go but as long as you only have that one conference loss and it’s not to Georgia, you’re in the hunt.”"
Now it would have been nice to hear him say something a little more confident than just “we’ve got a chance.” Pretty much everyone knows that Florida has a chance. This wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen in this rivalry.
But for his second point, a trip to Atlanta becomes a lot more real if Florida can pull this off on Saturday. It would still take a couple of impressive wins against Missouri and LSU, but once you beat the best in your conference, everything else becomes a lot more doable.
The Gators have a chance to shock the country and make a major statement this weekend in Jacksonville. We’ll see if they’re up for it.
