Florida football: Gators get bad break for black-out game vs Arkansas
By Will Thomas
Florida football is debuting black uniforms for the first time ever in a few weeks when the Gators host Arkansas on November 4th.
Napier announced that Florida would be in all-black before the season started, and the game was being set up to be a blackout in The Swamp.
But those in charge of the schedule seem to not care very much about the prospect of a blackout in Gainesville.
The Gators got a bad break as their matchup with Arkansas will be at noon.
Florida football: We could have worked this out
The Gators have never worn black uniforms and the idea of a blackout in The Swamp is something that’s pretty awesome to think about.
But Florida got bumped out of a night slot and will be stuck playing this game at noon.
Now LSU and Alabama meet that weekend, which is more than deserving of a nighttime slot. Not going to be picky there.
But Kentucky and Mississippi State is the other game that earned a 7:30 p.m. kick.
This is not meant to push the narrative that Arkansas at Florida is some kind of marquee matchup that should get College Gameday and ABC coverage at night.
But it’s very unfortunate that the Gators’ blackout game couldn’t even get an afternoon kick so it would look good by the fourth quarter.
Now, there are a lot of things that go into scheduling all of these games every weekend. And there are certainly several valid reasons why this game is at noon.
But as a fan, it’s a bit of a bummer. Noon games are always worse than night games from a fan perspective, and now that we’ll be missing out on a blackout, it hurts even more.
Hopefully, Florida will go out and still look good in their black uniforms.
A win would be good too.
