Oftentimes, when Florida football is looking at a prospect, and they make an offer, the offer list for said prospect is already a mile long. There is nothing wrong with this approach, it just showcases that the Gators are not alone in going after talented players.

But other times, the Gators get a lead on a player and are the ones to start the train of offers. In the case of Kris Thompson, the Gators are the first SEC school to offer the linebacker out of Tennessee.

Florida Football: Start the movement

Thompson is a class of 2025 linebacker out of Nashville who plays at the Lipscomb Academy. He is currently unrated by three of the four main recruiting services, with 247 being the lone service to rate him.

Even then, 247 sees him as a mid-tier three-star, rated as the 61st linebacker in the country.

His film showcases an athletic player who reads plays well and is quick to come downhill once he diagnoses the play. Listed at 6’1″ and 215 pounds, he has great range and speed for a player of his size and power.

As we have chronicled here at Hail Florida Hail, he continues the trend we’ve seen out of every Florida football prospect, where he isn’t afraid to bowl you over once he gets to you.

He does have offers from Louisville, UNC, Maryland, and Georgia Tech, according to his 247 profile, so it will be interesting to see if more schools start to catch wind of Thompson.

Based on what we see on film, Thompson has the athleticism to become a Scooby Williams type of player as he continues to develop. But it does seem like the recruiting services are sleeping a little bit on Thompson, and leaving him unranked by the season’s end feels like it would be a mistake.
