Last week, the Gators got back on track with a victory over Vanderbilt. It was a weird week for Florida football for daily fantasy purposes as a couple of sleepers popped up to take advantage of some injuries the Gators were dealing with.

Today we are going to look at the “Afternoon Only” slate of games that FanDuel is offering, which includes Florida vs South Carolina along with:

  • Illinois vs Maryland
  • Texas A&M vs Tennessee
  • Wake Forest vs Virginia Tech
  • Kansas vs Oklahoma State
  • BYU vs TCU
  • Oregon vs Washington
  • Iowa vs Wisconsin

Florida Football: Start or Fade

Graham Mertz

  • $7,700
  • Last week – 20.7 points
  • RotoWire Projection – 11.6 points

As we have said all season, Mertz has been a perfectly capable game manager QB for the Florida Gators, and his on-field play has been fine.

One subplot starting to emerge is that part of why Florida isn’t throwing the ball deep is because Mertz isn’t finding his guys deep.

Whatever the reason, Mertz has yet to emerge as a viable daily fantasy option. Even though he is one the cheapest options at QB, his value still isn’t high enough to trust him to score enough fantasy points.

Ricky Pearsall

  • $7,600
  • Last week – 13.7 points
  • RotoWire Projection – 12.5 points

Unfortunately, it is getting harder and harder to recommend Pearsall as a fantasy option. He is still putting up double-digit points in every game, but he is extremely touchdown dependent to get there.

He has not had more than six receptions since opening night and has not topped 100 yards receiving against a Power Five opponent this season.

Eugene “Tre” Wilson

  • $5,900
  • Last Week – 16.4 points
  • RotoWire Projection – 7.05 points

The models continue to lag behind Wilson. As he showcased with Tennessee and showcased last week against Vanderbilt, he is going to get the ball plenty of times to showcase his stuff.

Last week, Wilson had eight catches, all of which were behind the line of scrimmage. No reason to believe he won’t be showcased today

Arlis Boardingham

  • $6,600
  • Last Week – 25.4 points
  • RotoWire Projection – 7.57 points

After his monster week last week, Boardingham becomes a tempting option to play this week. His strength lies in his ability to gain yards after the catch.

And given Billy Napier’s offense’s scheme this season with Florida football, he has been getting tight ends involved more and more.

If you need a high-upside guy for a little bit cheaper price, Boardingham would be a good option.

Trevor Etienne

  • $6,600
  • Last Week – DNP
  • RotoWire Projection – 15.5 points

After sitting out last week, Etienne is back and will be a key cog in the machine for Florida today.

One buyer beware is that Florida center Kingsley Eguakun will be out and Florida’s offensive line hasn’t looked the same without him.

Montrell Johnson

  • $7,300
  • Last Week – 23.5 points
  • RotoWire Projection – 11.7 points

Johnson defies expectations whenever we say to be careful about playing him.

Now, after being the workhorse last week, there is reason to believe he wouldn’t get as many touches this week with Etienne being healthy, but the upside with Johnson is that he is the pass-catching option he provides.

He is a riskier pick.
