They say to keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. So while Florida football commit was lighting it up again in Texas last night, many Gator fans were tuned into ESPN to see Dylan Raiola, a Georgia commit who is the only QB in the country rated ahead of Lagway.
Raiola’s Buford High lost a close game to rival Mill Creek, and even though the game came down to a final drive that Raiola was leading, literally only fans inside the stadium got to see the finish of the game.
Florida Football: The Heidi Game
The game still lives in infamy to this day, and the standard ever since is that if a game runs longer than originally planned, that game is shown to its conclusion before switching over to the next game.
Last night, Buford High was trialing Mill Creek 31-24 but had the ball and was driving.
Raiola, the number one rated QB in the country, wasn’t having a standout night thanks to a number of drops but had a chance to redeem himself.
Enter ESPN deciding that a preseason NBA game was more important than the finish of this high school game.
Friday's High School football game between Georgia powerhouses Buford and Mill Creek was nationally televised.

But with Buford down 7 and driving, ESPN2 had to cut away with less than 30 seconds left.
The reason? Preseason NBA action. pic.twitter.com/lMjA8bgOHy
As one could imagine, Georgia fans were furious and the decision.
Florida football fans who were checking out the game to see the QB that the Gators will be going toe-to-toe with in the future were frustrated as well.
Even former Gator great Jacquez Green was not happy with ESPN’s choice of programming.
To the freaking NBA preseason game🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 https://t.co/Pi6SXaqNrw

For the record, Raiola did not lead the comeback, and Buford lost.
If you are keeping score at home, DJ Lagway had a monster night.
Maybe ESPN should check him out instead next time.
