Florida football: Gators open as road underdogs against South Carolina
By Will Thomas
Florida football is coming off of a solid win at home against the Vanderbilt Commodores, taking them down by a score of 38-14.
Shane Beamer has SC playing some solid ball, but they haven’t looked too impressive in any game yet this season.
Despite that, the Gators open up as road underdogs as they get ready to travel up to South Carolina.
Florida football: Not a lot of respect
SC is 2-3, while the Gators are 4-2. Yet, the Gamecocks are favored by 2.5 points. This shows that there isn’t a whole lot of respect for the Gators yet, especially on the road in the SEC.
It’s a little hard to argue with that. Florida looked awful in their first road SEC game against Kentucky and didn’t look all too impressive in their game against Charlotte a couple of weeks ago.
This team hasn’t seemed to handle success very well yet, and coming off of a big win at home, that could be an issue again this week.
60% of the bets that have come in for this game are currently on the Gamecocks, showing that the public has learned their lesson from betting on the Gators in Lexington.
As the week goes on I would expect this number to move out to -3 and maybe -3.5, especially if the Gators’ injury report still has Trevor Etienne’s name on it.
Overall this line shouldn’t come as a shock. Has South Carolina looked dominant? Not at all. But the Gators were miserable defensively in Kentucky, and a guy like Spencer Rattler can take advantage of a bad defense and make it embarrassing really fast.
We’ll see how the line moves this week, but we won’t know anything for sure until the two teams square off in five days.
