Recruiting never stops for Florida football, even in the middle of the season. Well, as long as you aren’t Dan Mullen.

And while the bulk of the 2024 class is wrapped up for the Gators and, at this point, they are just trying to keep the 4th ranked class in the nation together, Florida did offer a walk-on spot to fill a position group that might not have the depth we would like it to have.

Florida Football: The Chase to fill the safety room

Chase Dexter is an unrated prospect from all four of the major recruiting services out of Plant City, FL, who has offers from all three service academies and a smattering of other FCS-level schools.

Listed at 6’0″ and 180 pounds, the safety was offered a PWO slot by the Gators and could potentially add depth to the group if he opts to come to Florida.

On film, Dexter showcases solid instincts and a willingness to compete. He’s not afraid to play press coverage when asked, he is a willing tackler (something Florida DBs struggled with against Kentucky), and he has decent instincts once the ball is in the air.

His measurables on the track are solid but not elite (PR of 52.59 in the 400), and one could probably make a case that Dexter is a lower-rated three-star prospect if they were to compare him to other lower-rated three-stars.

Given the lack of depth currently at safety for Florida football, the Gators might need a guy like Dexter to come into the program. Yes, Florida has Xavier Filsaime and Josiah Davis coming to Gainesville next season. Filsaime is the second-rated safety in the country, while Davis is a lower-rated three-star.

But assuming Kamari Wilson is done with the Gators, Florida will only have five or six safeties on scholarship on the roster for 2024, depending on what they do in the transfer portal.

Next. Florida's running game must be better. dark
