Florida Football Red Flags: Safety Depth

The play of true freshman Jordan Castell has been great this season, and he is in the running to be a freshman All-American by the time the season is over.

Behind him, though, there are a lot of question marks for Florida football.

We have chronicled the disappearance of Kamari Wilson, and unless something changes, we don’t expect to see him again in a Gator uniform.

Miguel Mitchell has been getting the bulk of the snaps as the second safety, but his play isn’t up to par with what Florida needs. Against Kentucky, he was credited with four missed tackles and currently has seven for the season, the second most on the team.

We also saw R.J. Moten rotate in for 16 snaps. He had one tackle and missed one himself. True freshman Bryce Thornton played 11 snaps and also had one tackle.

Of those three safeties, PFF did have Thornton graded out the highest, so it is possible Florida will be rolling with two true freshmen at safety.
