Florida football is coming off of a big win last weekend and is looking to keep the good vibes going this weekend as they host Charlotte in front of a sold-out home crowd.

This game is a little more important than a lot of people think, as the Gators need to be able to handle their success well and dominate an inferior opponent.

Florida is coming into this one as heavy home favorites but will need to play a sharp game if they want to cover and look as good as they did last week.

Here is a full betting preview of the Gators’ matchup with Charlotte.

Florida football vs. Charlotte odds, spread, and total

The spread for this game opened at -28 in favor of Florida and has sat right there the entire time. Not really a surprise as these two teams are not even at all on paper.

The over/under is currently at 48.5, which is down a few points from where it opened up at 51. This tells us that Vegas expects the Gators to run the ball, slow the game down, and methodically handle the 49ers.

The money line is about as lopsided as you would expect. The Gators opened at -4500 and are now -5000 favorites, with Charlotte paying out at +1800.

Florida football vs. Charlotte key players to watch

Florida Gators

Treyaun Webb: We saw Webb get a lot of run in Florida’s game against McNeese State two weeks ago, and I think that could happen again against Charlotte. He looked great against the Cowboys and has another chance on Saturday to showcase what he can do.

T.J. Searcy: Searcy has looked like a monster off the edge so far as just a true freshman, and in a game that might be a blowout he should get some additional reps. He’ll be a very valuable depth piece on the D-line as we enter SEC play.

Jason Marshall: Marshall has been a little underwhelming so far this season and has seen some young guys shine. This is his chance to get right against a lesser offense and remind us all who he is in the Gators’ secondary.

Charlotte 49ers

Jalon Jones: The Jalon Jones saga was one of the weirder ones during his time at UF, and now he makes his return as one of Charlotte’s QBs. It will be interesting to see the dynamic of his return this weekend.

Demetrius Knight II: Knight is one of the 49ers’ leading tacklers at linebacker, and is an upperclassman on their defense. He’ll be vital as Charlotte tries to slow down the Gators’ rushing attack.

Jarius Mack: Mack, one of their wideouts, is averaging 23.5 yards per reception and has a score this season. The Gators will have to limit his big play potential to keep Charlotte at bay.

Florida football vs. Charlotte Prediction and Pick

Over the past few days, I had been leaning to take Charlotte to cover this given that the Gators have reportedly not been practicing well and handling their success poorly.

But the response to that lazy effort was accountability by both Billy Napier and some of the older guys in the locker room. They know that a lazy effort is unacceptable after just one win, and I think they’ll want to prove that they’re still focused this week.

With all that in mind, I think Florida can win this game 42-10, which would cover the 28 and push us over.
