Florida football made a lot of changes from year one to year two under Billy Napier, from new assistants to giving young players big roles on the field.

But perhaps there isn’t a bigger change that Billy decided to make than bringing Brandon Spikes on as a student assistant this fall.

Spikes is back in Gainesville getting his degree, and has also been an integral part of the Gators’ linebacker room, and has brought his wisdom and experience back to The Swamp.

Billy Napier recently spoke about the difference that Brandon has made since he’s been back and the value he’s bringing to the Gators.

Florida football: It’s nice having a familiar face around

Here’s Napier’s full quote about Spikes being back.

"“I can speak on behalf of Brandon Spikes. He’s made our team better because he cares about the University of Florida…He was here when they were successful and I think he can speak about that. I think that’s impactful for our team.”"

"“He’s back here doing the right thing and getting his degree. That’s allowed him an opportunity to be around our players and impact our entire organization.”"

Florida fans got a refresher about the impact that Brandon had during his time as a player in Gainesville when he was one of the stars in Swamp Kings.

Now, the current players will get to benefit directly from that experience and knowledge and help turn the Gators around.

As Napier said, Spikes knows what winning looks like at UF. He lived it and has rings to prove it, for both the SEC and National Championships.

At a program that has been down for the past couple of years, having someone who knows what it takes to be great is invaluable as they try to turn it around.

Hopefully, this isn’t the only season we get Brandon on the sidelines and at practices, because he has provided this team with a huge boost.
