Florida football: Trevor Etienne wins RB of the week honors
By Will Thomas
Florida football brought home a big win over the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday night behind impressive performances on both offense and defense.
One guy on offense stood apart from the rest after a dominant showing that flipped the game on its head.
After an elite showing on Saturday, Trevor Etienne was named the Doak Walker National Running Back of the week.
If Etienne replicates what he did this past weekend, we can expect him to take this award home a few more times this season.
Florida football: Feed him the rock
Etienne was a one-man wrecking crew against the Vols. He carried the ball 23 times for 172 yards (7.5 yards per carry) and found the endzone.
That 62-yard touchdown may have been the highlight of the game with how silly he made the entire Tennessee defense look on his way to the endzone.
Gator fans have known how special Etienne is from game one of his freshman season when he flashed his big play ability in their opener against Utah.
Splitting carries with Montrell Johnson has also taken a few numbers away from him, but he really exploded this past weekend, especially after Montrell was shaken up in the second half.
Florida was always going to be a run-heavy team that tried to control the tempo and wear defenses down. They struggled heavily on the ground against Utah, got it back against McNeese St, but really showed their prowess against the Vols.
Maintaining success on the ground is going to be critical for this team if they want to roll their momentum over into a string of wins as the season continues.
And if Etienne can replicate even 60%-70% of his production this weekend, they’ll be able to do just that. It may also let Trevor take home some bigger hardware than just RB of the week.
