Florida football: Gators make big jump up SEC power rankings
By Will Thomas
Florida football impressed a lot of people and inspired their fans with a dominant win over the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday night.
They jumped into the AP poll, now ranked 25th in the country, and have also made some moves in the SEC as the rest of the conference looks a little shaky.
On3 released their SEC power rankings for week four earlier this morning, and the Gators made a 5-spot lead up from No. 10 to No. 5.
It’s the biggest jump that any team made this past week, and potentially a sign of things to come for the rest of Billy Napier’s year two.
Florida football: Making a push toward the top
After week three the Gators leapfrogged Kentucky, Auburn, Texas A&M, and obviously, Tennessee. They now sit right behind Alabama, who has looked very rocky over the past two weeks, and Ole Miss, LSU, and Georgia at the top of the ladder.
How many Florida fans if you had told them preseason that the Gators and the Tide would be right next to each other within the SEC in week four would laugh you out of the room?
While it’s funky to look at, a lot of these rankings make sense. You could even make the case for Florida to be ahead of Alabama, but we don’t need to dig into that right now.
Florida now has the opportunity to climb even further up these power rankings and make a lot of noise not just in the conference, but in the NCAA.
If they dominate Charlotte, win a noon game in Lexington, get back at Vandy at home, and handle Spencer Rattler for a second year in a row, they’re 6-1 heading into the Georgia game.
That seemed inconceivable preseason. But with the heart and fight that Florida showed this past weekend, as well as the national media starting to respect them more, there’s no reason it can’t happen.
