Florida football recruiting has one of the best 2024 recruiting classes in the country but took a hit today as they lost one of their players on the defensive side of the ball.

Three-star DL Michai Boireau, who committed to the Gators on June 19th of this year, announced today that he will be de-committing from the Gators class.

It’s the first de-commitment in a while for Billy Napier and his staff, which serves as a reminder that recruiting is a never-ending battle.

With Michai gone, where does his departure leave the Gators?

Florida football recruiting: No shortage of bodies

The Gators have done a great job of recruiting defensive linemen so far in the 2024 cycle. Losing Boireau does take a very high-ceiling player away from UF, but Florida still has three DLs committed in 2024 that are rated higher than Michai is.

Amaris Williams, Nasir Johnson, and Kendall Jackson are still locked in with the Gators, providing them with a lot of depth and talent still at that spot.

Don’t take what I’m saying as a slight to Boireau. At 6’5”-350, he measures very well for a DL his age and is just about ready to make an impact at the next level.

Plus, his de-commitment is likely a result of his home state Georgia Bulldogs getting back in the mix for him after the Gators snatched him away earlier in the summer.

Any defensive player that Kirdy Smart and UGA want is worth your time as a coach, so we know that Boireau is no slouch.

But as I said, college football recruiting is a never-ending battle, and NIL only adds to the potential chaos on the trail.

While Michai is a very talented player that the Gators wanted to bring in, there’s no reason to be concerned given the depth of talent Florida will still welcome to campus in 2024.
