Florida football: Billy Napier expresses excitement about Gators’ youth
By Will Thomas
Florida football has thrown a lot of new faces out on the football field this fall, including a lot of true freshmen and young guys seeing their first meaningful action.
We have been talking all summer about all of the newcomers that had the potential to make an impact on the field, and it’s good to see all of those theories come to fruition in the first two games of the season.
After Florida’s week two win against McNeese State, Billy Napier was asked about the freshmen’s increased role in what the Gators have been doing.
His answer indicated that the Florida coaches are very happy with what they’ve seen so far from the young guys, and they’ll have an even bigger role in the weeks to come.
Florida football: Looking ahead to the future
Here’s what Billy said about the large role that young players have been playing in the Gators’ schemes:
"“There’s a lot of young cats running around out there. A good thing for the Gators in the future.”"
We got to see a lot of those young guys make major impacts against the Cowboys this weekend. Freshman RB Treyaun Webb rushed for 71 yards and scored two touchdowns, while wideouts Eugene Wilson III and Aidan Mizell both had multiple catches.
Defensively, Scooby Williams and Shemar James are the leaders of the LB room, while T.J. Searcy and Kelby Collins wreak havoc upfront with Ja’Keem Jackson and Jordan Castell making noise in the secondary.
All these young guys playing and making an impact will also help Florida out on the recruiting trail. The talented players that the Gators are going after will see how young players are implemented into Florida’s scheme and recognize their chance to get early playing time in Gainesville.
The youth movement going on in The Swamp isn’t a temporary adjustment. This is going to be the new normal with Billy Napier.
