Last night was opening night in the NFL, and former Florida football star Kadarius Toney took to the field with the Kansas City Chiefs in what was supposed to be a showcase game for the defending Super Bowl Chance.

Instead, the upstart Detroit Lions walked away from Arrowhead Stadium with the 21-20 victory, and unfortunately, Toney was at the center of the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Florida Football: Toney Award

After three seasons of minimal action with Florida, Toney exploded on the scene in 2020 with 75 receptions for 984 yards and 10 touchdowns. He parlayed that season into being selected in the first round by the New York Giants.

His time in the Big Apple was short, and he was traded to the Chiefs last October.

He set the Super Bowl record with a 65-yard punt return, and he caught a touchdown in the Chiefsโ€™ victory.

Well, one game after being a Super Bowl hero, Toney found himself in the crosshairs of every NFL fan in the country.

In the third quarter, with the Chiefs leading 14-7, Patrick Mahomes fired a pass to a crossing Toney that bounced off his hands into the waiting arms of Brian Branch for a touchdown.

The problem is that Brian Branch plays for the Lions.

His night didnโ€™t get much better as Toney was credited with four drops on the night, including a brutal drop with 2:30 left in the game as Kansas City was trying to drive to take the lead.

It was a brutal night for the former Florida football star, and the internet has had a field day with memes at his expense. Everyone has a bad day at the office, but when it happens in primetime with everyone in the country watching, there is unfortunately nowhere for Toney to hide.

The Chiefs next take the field next Sunday against the Bears.

With three ways to build, Gators opting for door number three. dark. Next
