Florida Football: 5 Gators that should see more snaps vs McNeese State
Following opening night against Utah, Florida football had 35 different players get credit for playing in the game. Some, like Ricky Pearsall and Princely Umanmielen, were featured heavily as expected. Some others didn’t quite get the number of snaps that we thought they might get.
But the good thing about playing a team like McNeese State is that it should allow Billy Napier to get a lot more guys into the game.
The following are five Gators in particular we anticipate seeing an increased snap count on Saturday.
Florida Football Increased Snaps: TJ Searcy
- Vs. Utah – 15 snaps
Freshman TJ Searcy saw limited action against Utah, but he shined with the snaps he did get.
When we profiled the defensive lineman before the season, we said:
"“Out of Upson-Lee High in Thomaston, Georgia, Searcy was used all over the field. While defensive end was his primary spot, he was also used as a lead-blocking full-back and, at times, was asked to play linebacker essentially. But even when asked to play further from the line of scrimmage, he still had the mobility to make plays and run guys down from a distance.”"
That mobility was on full display last week as he exploded into the backfield with ease.
We also said that there was a medium to low chance he could get redshirted, but after his play against Utah, it is safe to say that Searcy is going to be a mainstay in the defensive line rotation all season long.
