The first formal week of college football is almost in the books and with one game to go tonight, the SEC went 11-2. We are a Florida Gators-based website and are well aware that Florida is part of the two.

If you want our recap of the Gators, we have plenty of reactions as to what happened in Salt Lake City. We instead are going to take a quick peek around the rest of the SEC from Saturday’s slate of games.

SEC Round Up: Missouri does just enough

  • Missouri – 35
  • South Dakota – 10

Don’t get it confused, South Dakota is not good even within the world of FCS football. That’s South Dakota State you are thinking of. The South Dakota Coyotes won three games last season.

Missouri looked the part in the first half, taking a 28-3 lead into halftime.

The second half was a snooze fest for the Tigers as their first three possessions coming out of halftime went missed field goal, interception, and punt. In between, South Dakota did pull it to 28-10 before Missouri put the game away.

Brady Cook finished 17/21 passing for 172 yards and one touchdown. Cody Schrader ran for 138 yards off 18 carries.

Georgia starts slow

  • Georgia – 48
  • UT Martin – 7

UT Martin was a decent FCS squad last season, winning seven games. And with five minutes to go in the first half, the Skyhawks were holding their own against the two-time defending national champs.

Georgia only led 7-0 until QB Carson Beck ran it in from four yards out with 4:29 remaining in the first half.

After what was surely a fun halftime talk from Kirby Smart, Georgia kicked into gear in the second half and scored on five of their final six possessions, and capped the game off with a pick-six from Kody Sparks.

Beck finished the game 21/31 passing for 294 yards and one touchdown. Brock Bowers had five catches for 77 yards.

Ole Miss shows no Mercer

  • Ole Miss – 73
  • Mercer – 7

Well, thanks for coming Mercer. The Bears are a solid FCS program that went 7-4 last season and got steamrolled by the Rebels.

Lane Kiffin was determined to make a point and scored a touchdown three plays into the game. Ole Miss went on to score a touchdown on five of their seven first-half possessions and didn’t let up in the second half.

Jaxson Dart got the start and was 18/23 passing for 334 yards and four touchdowns. Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard also saw action, as Ole Miss made it their offseason mission to collect every quarterback in America.
