After much hype, Swamp Kings dropped on Netflix this week. The four-part series follows Florida football during the Urban Meyer era and has never before seen footage stitched in with some of the key figures that made up the Florida Gators at that time.

But with hype comes critique and criticism that the series only scratched the surface of the true story surrounding the Gators during that time.

Here are some notable reactions from around Twitter/X about Swamp Kings.

Florida Football: King of The Swamp

One of the common critiques that has come out is that a lot of the more scandalous stories from that time were omitted.

Multiple accounts pointed out a few of the omissions.

Speaking of Cam Newton, he chimed in with what he felt was left out of the series. Of course, Newton was supposed to take the baton from Tim Tebow but was invited to leave after a scandal involving stealing laptops.

Even he chimed in with what he felt was left out.

It hasn’t been all negative reactions. Some Gator fans appreciate the series for what it is, and even if it was a bit of a puff piece feel the series is a good precursor to the upcoming season.

There were also former players featured in the documentary that chimed in, just happy that Florida football in that era was able to be highlighted and put the Florida Gators in a positive light.

In retrospect, the documentary was never going to be the “hit piece” that maybe we expected it to be when it was first announced, including us. These Netflix Untold pieces have never gone the route of Dark Side of the Ring.

There was little chance they were going to get Tim Tebow, Urban Meyer, and others in front of the camera if it was going to turn into a negative for Florida football.
