Florida football is just under a week away from their first game of the season where they’ll fly out west and take on the Utah Utes.

While we have had a pretty good idea of who the biggest contributors will be on the offensive side of the ball, one of the freshmen wideouts may have an even bigger role than expected.

Eugene Wilson III, who is ready to kick off his first fall in Gainesville, has been wearing No. 21 throughout fall camp where he’s been turning heads.

He’s done good enough to earn the No. 3, which he’ll now be sporting for the Gators.

Florida football: New faces emerging

All summer, Billy Napier has talked about how Florida needs new faces to step up if the Gators are going to be competitive on the field.

The three freshman wideouts that Florida brought in, Andy Jean, Aidan Mizell, and Eugene Wilson, have all looked good in camp and are expected to get solid reps.

It seems that Wilson may have separated himself now. We saw him go viral for what he did in the weight room and his speed has been one of his best traits since high school.

At 5’10”-170, he’s small and quick enough to weave through the defense and hit gaps between tacklers to make big plays.

He packs a bigger punch than it seems for a guy his size and is going to surprise a lot of defenders when they hit him.

Now, does a number change automatically come with a talent upgrade? No. But that’s now what I’m trying to say.

Earning a number change before you even suit up for your first game is proof that Wilson is blowing everyone away at camp, and is already in position to be one of the best playmakers in the SEC.

In an offense in need of a spark out wide, Wilson can be exactly what the Gators need.
