Florida football: Gators vs Utah odds moving drastically
By Will Thomas
Florida football is just a little over a week away from the start of their 2023 season when they’ll fly out to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Utes.
But in what started out as a lopsided-looking game with a struggling Gators team, we now see a matchup that figures to be a lot closer than originally thought.
The spread for this game was originally -10.5 for Utah, then moving down to the -8 to -7.5 range for the past couple of weeks.
Today, that number is all the way down to -5.
Florida football: So you’re saying there’s a chance?
Obviously, the majority of this movement is due to Utah’s quarterback issues. Cam Rising is still recovering from the torn ACL he suffered in last year’s Rose Bowl, and Brandon Rose, who is their QB2, suffered an injury in practice that forced him to the hospital for a brief period.
If Utah has to start their third-string quarterback, this game will look a lot different than we all thought it would a few months ago.
But let’s not ignore all the positive buzz that’s been coming out of the Gators’ camp, which also contributed to this number moving.
Graham Mertz has started to look efficient and sharp and has built up tons of chemistry with the Gators’ receiving room which has tons of talent.
We know how good the running backs will be, and Florida’s defense projects to be much better than the unit they had last season.
But the biggest point of all is one that was quickly forgotten this summer. The Gators beat Utah last season.
They know what it takes to knock these guys off. And without Rising running the offense? Well, that makes it even easier.
If you wanted some action on Florida-Utah, hopefully, you got in on it early. The country is starting to respect the Gators a whole lot more.
