Florida football is two weeks away from their season opener on the road against the Utah Utes, where we’ll see the debut of Graham Mertz.

While Mertz isn’t the most flashy guy out of last year’s portal class, Billy Napier likes what he sees, and thinks that Graham is the perfect guy to run this year’s Gator offense.

On the podium yesterday, Mertz gave us some encouraging words, as well as some insight as to what Florida’s offense looks like.

He gave lots of praise to Coach Napier and the receivers, and is excited about what Florida can do this fall.

Florida football: More than meets the eye

Graham was very excited to talk about the schemes that the Gators are running this year and the potential that Florida has on that side of the ball.

"“I’m excited. I’m very excited about what this offense can be…from just the start of camp till now, we’ve made strides in taking care of the ball, being aggressive, taking what the defense is giving us, and we have that opportunity to strike, we will…I love this offense. All the ins and outs of it…it frees you up to just go play the game. We always have an answer and that’s one thing I truly love about this offense is there’s always an answer.”"

Graham also discussed how impressed he is with Billy Napier as a play caller and the way he works with the QBs.

"“I wish you guys could sit…and just hear how (Napier) installs. I mean, it’s so detailed. Like I said he knows the pitfalls of every play…He can recall a play from five years ago and he’ll just pop it up on the board…he’s seen it all and he understands it, he’s played the position.”"

Lastly, he gave a lot of credit to Florida football’s WR core.

"“When I’m just thinking about this receiving core we got right now…a lot of young talent, a lot of guys that are hungry. I’ve spent a lot of time with Ricky (Pearsall)…guys like CD (Caleb Douglas), (Marcus) Burke, Baby Jay (Ja’Quavion Fraziers…everybody in that toom, they want to get open, that’s exciting…It’s a special group here.”"
