Florida Football Concerns No. 3: Edge Rushers

Before you go running off to X to fire off a Tweet that we aren’t going to read, the defensive ends on paper should thrive in Austin Armstrong’s system. And on paper, the Gators have some talented guys that we have sung the praises of.

Princely Umanmielen should be poised for a breakout year. Jack Pyburn seems ready to step up. Tyreak Sapp has been moved over to the end. Freshmen Kelby Collins should create some havoc.

But it is all hypothetical right now, and it’s all on paper. The nine guys listed on Floirda’s website as a defensive end have a combined career sack total of eight sacks. And all eight of those are from Umanmielen.

Florida was 85th in the country last season in sack percentage, only collecting a sack on 5.5% of opposing QB dropbacks.

This group will have to step up in order for Armstrong’s system to work this season.
