Florida football recruiting: Gators make top five for Ryan Montgomery
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting is on the hunt for their 2025 QB1 and seems to have their list narrowed down to two guys.
One of those is Carter Smith, a 4-star out of Fort Myers, Florida. But the Gators seem to be further along for a different 4-star passer from the Midwest.
Ryan Montgomery, out of Findlay, Ohio, released his top five schools last night, and the Gators made the cut.
The other schools on his list are Georgia, Michigan, South Carolina, and Penn State.

For a young quarterback, it’s encouraging to watch Montgomery’s film and see that he doesn’t have a glaring weakness.
Starting with his head, he’s able to stay calm under pressure and not force any bad decisions. His offensive line doesn’t seem to do him a ton of favors, but he’s able to navigate through traffic in the backfield and stay level-headed.
Then you notice his legs and his athleticism. Diagnosing pressure is one thing, but actually escaping it is another. He’s quick and agile in the backfield and also has the running ability to gash the defense downfield and be a good running threat.
Finally to his arm, there isn’t a whole lot to say. He has a pretty deep ball with great touch and is also accurate on the run and sees open receivers way down the field, avoiding tunnel vision.
In his sophomore season with Findlay, he completed 172 of 285 attempts (60.3% completion rate) for 1,787 yards and 22 touchdowns.
On3’s RPM currently says Ohio State leads for Ryan. Well, his top five says otherwise.
In any case, the Gartors are down at 1.7% and need to make up some ground if they want to be a major player down the stretch. He’s been to campus once in April of this year, and will likely make an OV next season.
