Florida football recruiting got a massive win on the recruiting trail today and added an elite player to a position of need.

After reports that Florida may be missing on a priority defensive target, the Gators responded by securing the commitment of an even bigger one.

Wardell Mack, a 4-star corner out of Marrero, Louisiana, announced his commitment to Florida this morning.

Mack is a big win on the recruiting trail, and proof that this Gators’ coaching staff is near unstoppable as they pursue the top talent in the country.

Florida football recruiting: A full 180

Remember yesterday when everyone was freaking out about losing Zay Mincey to Miami just because some rumors got posted to the Canes’ 247 board? Which all led to people being frustrated with Corey Raymond’s recruiting?

Well, those words got thrown back in a lot of faces just now.

Mack is ranked as the No. 7 corner in the class of 2024 per On3’s Industry Ranking and is a top-75 overall player.

He was heavily favored to go to LSU, with Texas being the runner-up, and the Gators having just a 1.2% chance to land him per On3’s RPM.

But Billy Napier and Corey Raymond didn’t care. They decided to go get what they wanted. And they did.

Wardell’s commitment moves the Gators’ class back into the No. 3 spot in the country, and Mack is the Gators’ second CB commit, joining Teddy Foster.

This is a huge splash for a multitude of reasons that go beyond just landing a top-75 player in the country. Going into Louisiana and plucking a guy that LSU thought they had in their back pocket shows that nobody is safe when this Gators’ staff is on the hunt.

The whole country better get used to seeing this happen. Napier knows that college football is a talent acquisition business, and he’s proving that he’s one of the best in the country at getting that done.
