Ahead of its matchup with Florida football, Utah is starting to have a conundrum on its hands. Cam Rising is recovering from a torn ACL and, as we wrote last week, is in a race against time to suit up against the Gators on August 31.

Plan B for Utah, however, might have gone out the window as reports have surfaced that their backup QB suffered an injury during camp and might not be available to play.

Florida Football: Injuries pile up

Brandon Rose was a respectable three-star prospect coming out of high school and finished spring practices as the number two QB for Utah.

He had yet to attempt a pass for Utah, but Utes fans seemed pleased with his performance in their spring game.

But if the plan was for Rose to get the start against the Gators, if Rising couldn’t go, that plan might have to change.

Rose posted to his Instagram account that due to an undisclosed injury, he had to make a trip to the hospital, though he has since been released.

It probably doesn’t help that Utah was allowing full contact to their QBs during practice.

In a video posted to their official Twitter/X page, Utah had a montage of clips designed to hype up their fans from their scrimmage on August 10.

If you look at the video at the 23-second mark, there is a one-second clip of Rose getting sacked with full force by the Utah defensive line.

If Rose is unavailable and Rising doesn’t heal in time, Utah would be down to either Bryson Barnes or Nate Johnson.

Johnson was a four-star prospect in the 2022 class that ran 10.56 seconds in the 100-meter dash while in high school. Barnes was an unrated prospect.

Either way, the situation is reaching a dire level in Salt Lake City.
