Florida Football Career Rushing Leader No. 5: Fred Taylor

  • 1994 to 1997
  • 3,075 career rushing yards
  • 31 career rushing touchdowns

If not for injuries and a couple of minor discipline issues that caused him to miss time, Fred Taylor could have been the all-time rushing leader in Florida Gators history.

He had a monster freshman season in 1994, racking up 873 rushing yards and eight touchdowns off 171 carries.

A knee injury would cut short his 1995 campaign, and in 1996 he split carries with Elijah Williams.

During the 1997 season, Taylor dragged the Gators with him to a 10-2 record as he carried the ball 214 times for 1,292 yards, the fourth most in a single season in Gators history, and 13 touchdowns.

The Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Taylor with the ninth overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.

While he had to fight off injuries during his entire NFL career, he still played for 13 seasons and racked up 11,695 career rushing yards, almost all of which were with the Jaguars. Taylor retired in 2011 and was inducted into the Jacksonville “Pride of the Jaguars.”
