Florida football has had some great running backs over the years. It has also had some hybrid wide receivers that were capable of running the ball, as well as a certain somebody at quarterback.

The following are the top ten career rushing yards leaders for the Florida Gators.

Florida Football Career Rushing Leader No. 10: Chris Rainey

  • 2007 to 2011
  • 2,464 career rushing yards
  • 13 rushing touchdowns

Following in the footsteps of the human joystick that was Percy Harvin, Chris Rainey was a perfect fit for an Urban Meyer-led offense.

Rainey saw minimal action in 2007 before getting 84 carries in 2008 for 652 yards, an average of 7.8 yards per carry for the national championship-winning team.

That yards per carry would be the highest of his career while with the Gators, but after Harvin left Rainey started to be more involved in the passing game. During his senior campaign of 2011, Rainey ran the ball 171 times for 861 yards and caught the ball 31 times for 381 yards.

Rainey also went on to win a national title in 2010 as part of the Florida Gatros 4 x 100 team in track and field.

He finished with 19 career touchdowns from scrimmage and was drafted in the 5th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012 and eventually made his way to Canada and was a productive player in the CFL.
