Florida football recruiting has been on a hot streak throughout the 2024 recruiting class, whether they were trying to land new commits or lock down their current ones.

In the world of recruiting though, rumors are spread as quickly as they’re generated, and the Gators are on the losing end on one right now.

There’s lots of buzz that Gators’ safety target Zavier Mincey is now trending toward Miami, and could commit as soon as this afternoon.

But is there really a reason to be worried about losing Mincey to the Canes?

Florida football recruiting: We’ve seen this movie before

The rumors about Mincey started on the Canes’ 247 site, where one of their insiders gave some intel that Miami has been trending in the right direction for Mincey, and that there’s a chance he commits to them this weekend.

But that same guy got a similar message thrown right back in his face not too long ago.

Adarius Hayes, a Gators LB commit, was also once thought to be trending toward flipping to Miami after taking a visit there. The board was buzzing with flip rumors and “intel” for a couple of days.

And then Hayes went on social media and announced that he was shutting down his commitment and locking in with the Gators.

This is a “boy who cried wolf” deal going on with Miami’s insiders. Billy Napier isn’t Dan Mullen on the trail. He isn’t stubborn, and certainly won’t be strong-armed. If Miami is in fact gaining ground with Zay, Napier is going to come back even harder.

Mincey is also teammates with LJ McCray, who’s also trending toward the Gators. There isn’t much real substance tieing Zay to the Canes.

Now, could this article come back and bite me in my you know what? Maybe.

But that’s recruiting, and sometimes you’re wrong.

But I’m pretty confident I’m not in this case. So don’t let the desperation of Miami’s 247 board get to you. Napier isn’t like the past few UF coaches on the trail.

We’re good.
