Florida football recruiting has one of the best 2024 recruiting classes already put together, but they aren’t done trying to reel in elite talent.

One position they’re thin at is running back, with only Kahnen Daniels committed. Now, he’s a top-30 RB and is plenty good enough to be the Gators’ ’24 RB. But the Gators are still going after a top-5 RB that was formerly committed to come to Gainesville.

Jerrick Gibson, a 4-star running back at IMG, and originally from Gainesville, de-committed from the Gators a few years ago and is now a verbal commit to Texas.

But the Gators aren’t giving up, and may still have an outside chance to land the homegrown talent.

Florida football recruiting: Never say never

The Gators have been on a tear throughout the 2024 cycle, and have landed a number of recruits that they weren’t the favorite for, notably Aaron Chiles and Jamonta Waller.

So why would we start counting them out now? Especially with a guy who already committed to play for you once, although that was under a different coaching staff.

247 Sports reported today that the Gators are still in contact with Gibson and that it’s possible that Jerrick will be at a game this fall in The Swamp.

Gibson is yet to take an official visit to Gainesville, while he’s already used his OVs to Texas, Miami, and Georgia.

That means that the Gators could host him for a decisive official this fall now that he’s already used them for his other top schools.

Jerrick has already made eight trips to Gainesville, three more than the next highest school, so he is already familiar with the campus.

But an official visit with this new coaching staff, and maybe even a few committed guys in attendance with him, could open his eyes to what the program is about to turn into.
