Derek Wingo

Speaking of Wingo, he’s another highly touted prospect that has yet to have his breakout moment.

Wingo was the headliner alongside Gervon Dexter in the 2020 class. Dexter has already departed for the NFL while Wingo enters his fourth year in Gainesville having appeared in 34 games with just 41 total tackles (13 solo).

He appears to be in a better position than Williams for increased playing time after starting in the Las Vegas Bowl and making eight tackles.

If he can beat out Mitchell, Wingo could very easily be a starter this season.

And as mentioned, there are reinforcements coming if Wingo doesn’t have the breakout season for Florida football in 2023.
