Another guy who will bring crucial veteran leadership to the Gator’s defense is R.J. Moten, who will be a leader in a very young safety room in Gainesville.

Moten was a 4-star recruit in the 2020 class and was a top-20 safety in the cycle, as well as a top-200 overall player.

R.J. had two solid years with the Wolverines, with a total of 66 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two interceptions in two seasons.

Now he enters his third year as a critical guy in the Gators’ safety room as they try and bounce back from a rough year last season.

Billy Napier has talked about it a lot over the past few weeks, but the Gators are very young in the backend. Kamari Wilson and Miguel Mitchell, who are both sophomores, are two of the biggest contributors at that position outside of Moten.

While those guys are both talented players with bright futures, it would be hard to trust them both with a 12-game slate this early in their careers.

With Moten there to help them, pressure will be taken off of the young guys and they’ll have more time to develop into great players.

R.J., like the other two guys I’ve spotlighted, will be on the field early and often this fall for the Gators. His consistency and leadership will go a long way in determining how good the entire Florida secondary is.
