Florida football recruiting: Gators going for elite USC commit at safety
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting is traveling across the whole southeast in search of the players they want to fill their 2025 class with.
They found their way to Oxford, Alabama where they’re looking to keep one of the best players in the country in the region and steal him from USC.
Anquon Fegans, the second-best safety and top-30 player in the country has received an offer from the Gators, and Florida is serious about him.
Fegans told On3 that Coach Chaos said to him, “He said they’re going to come at me hard; they’re not going to let up.”
Florida football recruiting: Can’t afford to let up
It’s a good thing that the Gators are this committed to landing Anquon because it’s tough to steal a recruit away from Lincoln Riley.
And after watching his tape it’s clear that Fegans is well worth the effort.
Anquon is ab abolsute ball hawk. He has elite instincts and always knows where the play is going, and has the speed and athleticism to make the plays he wants.
As a sophomore, he totaled 67 tackles, 11 PBUs, two forced fumbles, and nine interceptions, several of which he brought back to the house.
Anquon’s willingness to hit is great paired with his ball skills. He crashes toward the line of scrimmage when he sees a ball carrier emerge, and as his two forced fumbles imply, he hits pretty hard.
On3’s Industry Ranking has Fegans as the 30th-best player in the country, the second-best safety in the class, and the fourth-best player coming out of Alabama.
He committed to USC in May of this year, and I said earlier that that’s no easy flip. If Billy Napier and the Gators can get Fegans on campus a few times, and Austin Armstrong proves that he’s changing the defense for the better, the Gators can become a major contender in Anquon’s recruitment.
