Florida football recruiting: Gators offer massive Texas OT Lamont Rogers
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting has done a great job of two things in the 2024 recruiting class. The first is recruiting elite players out of Texas, and the second is landing massive offensive linemen that take up most of the field.
They just extended an offer to a guy in the 2025 class who will keep both of those trends going if the Gators are able to land him.
Lamont Rogers from Mesquite, Texas is one of the latest prospects to receive an offer from Billy Napier and his staff.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Gators turn on the jets in pursuit of Lamont as his recruitment heats up.
Florida football recruiting: Sheer size and strength
Lamont is just a flat-out massive human being and has his way just about every snap on the field. Standing at 6’7”-305, he’s the biggest sophomore out there, and is already big enough to get snaps in the SEC.
Over the next two years I’d expect to see his turn some of that weight into muscle, maybe dropping a few pounds, but still keeping his same size advantage.
When you watch his film it’s almost comical how easily he moves defenders. He just rumbles around the field flattening anybody in his way.
But, that’s also something I thought he needs to work on.
It looks like he’s a little wild and doesn’t quite have full of his body when he’s moving, which is understandable given how young and big he is. As he gets older he’ll get more flexible, agile, and quicker, which will make him an even better prospect.
LSU is the current leader for Lamont per On3’s RPM with a 94.9% chance to land him, with SMU and Oklahoma rounding out the top three.
But as the Gators get more involved and work to keep bringing top Texas talent over to The Swamp, don’t be shocked when the Gators become a major player for Rogers.
