By Will Thomas
Florida football began their fall camp earlier this week as they get ready for the 2023 season in Billy Napier’s second season at the helm.
After day four, Napier took to the stage to talk to the media about what he’s seen so far from the Gators and give a couple of updates on injuries.
Here’s what he had to say today.
Florida football: Billy Napier’s fall camp conference
Injuries – Shamer James has a “lower-body injury”, and they are taking it day by day. No real update, but not too much concern.
Lyndell Hudson is in concussion protocol following a car accident.
Brandon Spikes – Napier has been very impressed with Spikes and has liked having him with the program again. Says that he brings both pedigree and production to the team. “He’s really brought something. There’s presence there. I think [he’ll] make our team better.”
Corner depth behind Marshall – Said it’s great to get Devin Moore back healthy, Jalen Kimber has had a great offseason. “He’s a player that sees an opportunity”.
Ja’keem Jackson and Dijon Johnson have also been very impressive
QB-WR chemistry: Been pleased with the chemistry with wideouts. “Had our best day at receiver yesterday”.
“Ricky is really sharp, Caleb Douglas is doing good things, Andy Jean has made a big jump this summer.”
Max Brown – “A really good athlete that just started laying QB a couple of years into high school.” Like his pedigree as an athlete, gained 8-9 lbs of lean muscle. “No doubt his accuracy has improved, cleaned up his footwork, stroke is much more consistent. Max has come along pretty nicely…He’s gotta catch up mentally. his work ethic this summer has impressed the staff and players.”
Austin Armstrong’s impact – “Austin has done a really good job connecting with the staff and the players.” Said he has a certain temperament that helps everybody and has upgraded personnel to run his defense as well.
