Florida football recruiting: 5-star David Stone sets top six, commitment date
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting has already put together an elite defensive class and one of the best hauls in the country.
As spots begin to fill up, the Gators look to add a few more elite pieces to their class and are among the finalists for one of the best defenders in the country.
David Stone, a consensus 5-star DL out of IMG, announced his final six schools today and set his commitment date.
If Billy Napier and the Gators can get him on board, there’s a clear path to the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
Florida football recruiting: Still some work to do
While the Gators are in his final six, Florida still has some work to do if they want to be in contention to land Stone’s commitment on August 26th.
On3’s RPM currently favors Oklahoma heavily, giving them a 79.1% chance to land him. In second is Michigan State at 15.4%, with the Gators in third at 1.6%.

David has taken five visits to The Swamp, including an official visit the weekend of June 2nd. But the Sooners and Spartans have both seen him more often, meaning Florida needs to step up if they’re serious about Stone.
And this staff knows how important David is. A few months ago Corey Bender reported that Gator coaches are “all in” on Stone, and pulling out all the stops to land him.
Stone has had some great words about UF during his recruitment. “There’s just something about the Gators; I don’t know what it is. Ever since my first visit, I fell in love with the place.”
And when talking about Napier, “Our conversation was probably one of the best I’ve had with any head coach in a while. He’s such a great guy.”
There’s no reason that the Gators can’t ramp up their efforts and become a top contender for Stone. Securing his commitment as a top-10 player in the country would launch this class to another level, and prove that the Gators are well on their way back to the top.
