Florida football recruiting, as we all know, is in a great spot right now. They already have an elite 2024 class with even more great additions on the horizon.

But another tell that recruiting is going well is when your 2024 players are going out of their way to recruit guys a class after them.

Well, that’s exactly what 5-star Gator commit DJ Lagway is doing. He’s got his eye on the 2025 class and is trying to recruit some wideouts to come join him in Gainesville.

For right now, his top 2025 target looks to be Taz Williams Jr.

Florida football recruiting: Texas ties

DJ is from Willis, Texas, so landing him along with some other Texas-based recruits helps the Gators plant some roots in the Lone Star State.

Lagway is well aware of that and is trying to use it to the Gators’ advantage.

Taz is ranked as the 270th-best player in the country, the 39th-best wideout in the 2025 class, and the 47th-best player coming out of Texas, per On3’s Industry Rankings.

We wrote about Taz when the Gators first offered him, and how he’s able to use his length to go up and snag passes in the red zone.

His red zone capabilities combined with his speed make him a very appealing target for the Gators. He has a PR of 23.01 in the 200m and was the final leg in a 43.52 effort in a 4×100 relay.

On the football field, his long stride allows him to gain and keep separation from defenders in space, even if he doesn’t look like lightning on the field.

Right now, Texas and TCU are the two favorites to land Taz, which makes sense given that they’re his in-state schools.

But if you give DJ and Napier a year and a half to work on him and sell UF, I like the Gators’ chances of pulling another great player from Texas.
