Florida football will travel the most miles of all SEC teams in 2023
By Will Thomas
Florida football is staring down a tough 2023 schedule and is trying its hardest not to look ahead to an even tougher slate in 2024.
The Gators have to face off against a handful of great teams this fall, and those games are made even tougher by the journeys that the team will have to go on to get there.
Florida will have to travel the most miles of any team in the SEC this fall and by a pretty substantial margin.
Hopefully the Gators like their charter.
Florida football: Wheels up
Over the course of the season, Florida will travel 9,876 miles round-trip to go play on the road and in neutral sites.
The next closest team is Auburn, who will have to cover 9,164 miles this fall, which includes a road trip to California.
The Gators won’t have much time to settle in before they’re first big trip. They open with a game at Utah in Salt Lake City, which will make up 4,400 of their miles over just a few days.
As I’m sure you all could guess, that’s their longest trip of the season.
A few weeks after that they make the 709-mile journey to Lexington before covering 361 on their way to play South Carolina.
Then they get their shortest trip of the season to Jacksonville, which is just 75 miles.
After that, they head to Death Valley, a 587-mile journey, and their final road trip of the season is a 1,006-mile trek to go play Missouri.
While the Gators make all these trips to total over 9,000 miles, UGA will only have to go 2,292 over the course of the whole fall. So that isn’t ideal.
But you have to control the controllable, and Florida can’t dictate when and where they have to go to play games.
Winning a bunch of these would just make the season that much more of a success.
