Florida football has never beaten: Indiana Hoosiers (0-1)

Getting back to Florida’s game versus the Hoosiers takes a lot of effort. These teams have only played once, and that game was back in 1916.

On their home field, Indiana took the Gators down by a score of 14-3.

To give some context as to what college football was like in 1916, the NCAA does not have a clear-cut champion. Both Army and Pittsburgh are listed in the record books as the winner.

This was also the year that Georgia Tech beat Cumberland 222-0.

The Gators went 0-5 overall this season as members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. So that’s the era we’re talking about here.

Would Florida football beat them today?

My thought here is that the Gators would handle Indiana pretty well. The Hoosiers went 4-8 last season in the Big Ten, which doesn’t earn them a whole lot of respect in my eyes.

Sure, the Gators aren’t a great team by any means. But they have enough bright spots on both sides of the ball to easily handle a team like Indiana. I don’t think the Hoosiers have an answer for both Etienne and Johnson out of the backfield, and the Gators could both control the tempo of the game while also scoring a decent bit.

This would be a decent game to have on the schedule this season as a break from the grind of UF’s SEC schedule, but alas, the Gators won’t see them.
