Florida football recruiting: Gators schedule visit with 4-star in-state DB
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting has put together an awesome defensive haul in the 2024 class, but one position where they don’t have tons of talent is at corner.
With Billy Napier and Corey Raymond at work though, it’s just a matter of time before the Gators start to land some serious talent at DB.
One guy they’re after is Jamari Howard, who was originally committed to Michigan State but is now back on the market.
The Gators will host him for a visit later this month.
Florida football recruiting: Dipping into enemy territory
While the Canes aren’t among the top teams for Jamari according to On3, Florida will have to go down to Miami if they want to secure his commitment.
FSU currently leads for the Miami Central product with a 25.3% chance to land him per On3’s RPM, with his former commitment Michigan State in second at 22.1%, and the Gators sitting in third at 14.4%.
Howard has already been to Gainesville twice, most recently in March of this year. He had an OV scheduled for June 2nd but had to reschedule, and is yet to put another OV on the calendar.
But with his trip to The Swamp coming up on July 29th, it’s possible he won’t try for another OV and have enough from his three trips to make a decision.
Howard is a 4-star recruit per On3’s Industry Rankings and is listed as the 124th-best player in the country, the 15th-best corner in the cycle, and the 19th-best player coming out of Florida.
It seems that this recruitment is going to come down to FSU and Florida. Sure, MSU is ahead of the Gators as of now, but I have a hard time believing he’ll choose to re-commit to Michigan State over two in-state schools.
It feels like Howard’s recruitment could be a marathon, so Napier and Raymond have their work cut out for them to land him.
