Florida Baseball commits that went pro: Daniel Vogelbach

In 2011, the Florida Gators lost out on four players to MLB. Ironically, the two players that were drafted in the first round ended up being busts.

Husdon Boyd only lasted three years in the minor leagues, and Michael Kelly didn’t debut in the big leagues until last season with the Phillies.

Daniel Vogelbach was drafted in the second round by the Chicago Cubs and while he is far from a stud, he has been able to do just enough to stay in a Major League lineup since 2016.

Vogelbach was traded to Seattle in 2016, and in 2019 he was an All-Star that hit 30 home runs and 76 RBIs.

He has never been able to maintain that form, as his second-highest home run total is 18.

Vogelbach is currently a member of the New York Mets, where he gets to high-five actual Florida Gator alum Peter Alonso.

Vogelbach has a career MLB batting average of .218, a career on-base percentage of .342, and a career OPS of .747.
