Florida Football: Five teams the Gators have never played

Florida Football Teams Never Faced: Iowa State

It’s called the midwest because everything about it is mid.

Or something like that.

Don’t blame me, blame MJF.

While Florida football has faced off with the Iowa Hawkeyes seven times, including most recently in 2016, the Gators have never taken on Iowa’s rivals from Ames.

The Cyclones have gone from the Big 6, to the Big 7, to the Big 8, before being mainstays in the Big 12 since its inception in 1996.

Iowa State has never had a 10-win season in the history of its program (9-3 in both 2020 and 2000), so there hasn’t been a compelling reason for Florida to schedule them in the non-conference portion of the season.

And much like TCU, with no real reasons for the two teams to cross paths during bowl season, it is hard to envision when Florida football and Iowa State would play each other unless the two meet up in the playoffs down the road,
