Florida Football: Five teams the Gators have never played

Florida Football Teams Never Faced: Minnesota

You would think, with all the bowl tie-ins that the SEC and the Big 10 have, that at some point the Florida Gators and the Minnesota Golden Gophers would have crossed paths at some point.

The Outback Bowl, the Citrus Bowl, the Gator Bowl, something.

But it doesn’t help that from 1962 to 1984, Minnesota only made it to one bowl game.

In fact, when they went to the Sun Bowl in 1999, it was just the sixth bowl appearance in program history.

Since 2000, they have made it to a bowl game 17 times, but only two of those were in the before-mentioned bowl games played in Florida.

Minnesota has been a frequent member of the Music City Bowl, the Insight Bowl, and the newly formed Pinstripe Bowl.

It is hard to say when the two teams will cross paths. Minnesota is coming off back-to-back 9-4 seasons and seems like a fringe candidate to boost themselves into a playoff berth once the playoffs expand.

And the very least, they feel like a team that will get picked for one of the Florida bowls and some point.

Whether Florida is there to greet them is unknown.
