Florida football recruiting doesn’t try to cruise to the finish line when they really want a prospect in the 2024 class. They go all in.

The Gators are in daily contact with Ashton Hampton, a 3-star DB out of Tallahassee, who is nearing his commitment date of July 15th.

Florida is among the finalists for Hampton but has plenty of work to do if they want to catch up to the current favorite in his recruitment, Clemson.

In my opinion, Ashton is well worth the effort.

Florida football recruiting: Violence and aggression in the secondary

Hampton is a two-way player and shows his athleticism and pure football ability on both sides of the ball.

But after watching his film it’s hard not to like what you see defensively a little bit better.

Ashton plays in the secondary like his hair is on fire and hits everybody like he wants to make them quit playing football.

He has great closing speed in coverage, but I do believe that his aggression, power, and willingness to be violent are what makes him so good defensively.

Hampton recently told On3 that he has a great relationship with Gators DC Austin Armstrong, which makes a lot of sense.

Both have aggressive play styles and don’t take any breaks from the intensity of defensive football.

As I said earlier, the Gators have to climb out of the hole that Clemson has them in if they want to land Ashton’s commitment in nine days.

The Tigers have a 49.4% chance to land Hampton per On3’s RPM and have both 247 Sports’ crystal balls in their favor as well.

But after all that we’ve seen the Gators pull off in the 2024 class, why can’t they pull off another surprise?

At this point, we all know better than to count out Billy Napier and the Gators.
