Head-to-Head

The main issue that I have with the Heisman is that it is awarded before the National Championship game. The teams competing in the national championship usually have a player or two that are competing for the Heisman. And since we talk so much about “Heisman moments,” it makes no sense not to include the biggest game on the college football calendar in the votes.

In January of 2009, Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford faced off against each other in the national championship game. While neither quarterback played particularly well in this game, it was Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators who came out with the win. While Sam Bradford’s stats were much better than Tebow’s, it would have been hard not to vote for Tebow after winning the national title. It was the Heisman moment above all Heisman moments, and it was not even considered because the voting and award ceremony had already taken place.

Tim Tebow wins this category. Unfortunately, this category doesn’t matter because of how Heisman voting works.
